Ramadan is just around the corner and once again this year, Sarah from Flour and Spice, Henna from My Ninja Naan, along with myself will be hosting Eid Eats 2016. This is our third year hosting Eid Eats! In case you missed it last year, it’s a link party where we all make a dish that we would serve on Eid. You can find all the details at the end of this post!
Today I’m sharing a recipe from my co-host Sarah. It’s a dish I’ve been making for over a year now. I had been on the search for a great Haray Masalay Murghi for a while without much luck. When Sarah posted her recipe I tried it immediately and it was a bit hit! My boys love the spicy sauce! This recipe is so good that I doubled it! I hope you will give it a try and participate in Eid Eats 2016.
Haray Masalay Ki Murgh (Chicken in a Spicy Cilantro Sauce)
Adapted from Flour & Spice
2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
canola oil
2 onions, diced
2 bunches of cilantro, roughly chopped
2-4 green chillies, chopped (I used 2)
1/4 cup ginger-garlic paste
1/4 cup yogurt
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp red chilli powder + 1/2 tsp salt (for sprinkling on chicken)
In a food processor or blender, add cilantro, green chillies, ginger-garlic paste, yogurt, 1 tsp salt, cumin, coriander and 1/4 cup water. Process until smooth.
In a large pan, coat the bottom with oil. Once hot, add onions and cook until translucent. Add the chicken and sprinkle red chilli powder and 1/2 tsp salt. Cook until the chicken no longer looks raw. Add the pureed cilantro mixture. Bring to a boil, cover and cook on low for 10-15 minutes or until chicken is cooked. Remove lid and increase heat. Cook, stirring frequently until water has evaporated and oil separates. Serve hot with some roti or naan.
The party will take place in the form of a link-up. Here’s how to participate:
- Prepare a dish that you would normally make on Eid. This must be a new recipe. Write up a blog post and post on July 3, 2016. Be sure to include the hashtag #EidEats2016 in your post and when sharing!
- Link your post to Flour & Spice, My Ninja Naan and Chocolate & Chillies. Make sure to add the above button to your post.

Hey, green chicken! Phups used to make this or something similar! I used to gobble that up… like pretty much everything else. But I loved green chicken especially. This looks pretty easy (is this a sign that I can cook?). I finally got a blender this weekend. All I need is some chicken. Also, you and Sarah have managed to convince me. Sign me up for Eid Eats!
So glad you are joining in! This recipe is different from my mom's. It's really simple….you can do it!!!!
