Baked Egg in a Bread Basket with Dempster’s Zero {Giveaway}

Whenever I go grocery shopping and I am deciding on what to buy, the first items I look at in the Nutritional Facts are the Fat and Sugar content.  So I was very happy to see that Dempster’s Zero has no added fat or sugar.  After tasting it I really couldn’t tell the difference between Dempster’s Zero and the other breads I have purchased in the past.  It is very soft and love that it is made of Whole Grain Wheat Flour.

Dempster’s Zero

I decided to make Baked Egg in a Bread Basket with Dempster’s Zero.  This was a wonderful change to how we normally have our eggs.  I love how I can make several at the same time so no one is waiting on their breakfast while others are eating.  I made mine in a ramekin.  You could also make it in a muffin pan but I suggest using a jumbo sized muffin tin as I found the egg would overflow in a regular muffin pan.  The bread gets super crunchy and the yolk was runny with the whites set…perfect!  Whenever making eggs over easy I have the hardest time flipping them over, keeping the yolk intact and not overcooking the yolk.  This was a perfect solution for me to get the perfect yolk and no stress in flipping the egg.

Baked Eggs in a Bread Basket

1 egg (mine was extra large)
1 slice of Dempster’s Zero bread
cooking spray or butter
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Spray your ramekin or muffin pan with cooking spray or grease with butter.  My ramekin was 7 oz.

Flatten the bread with a rolling pin.  Carefully press into the ramekin.  Crack the egg on top of the bread.  I usually like to crack the egg into a small bowl and then transfer to the ramekin.  Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes.  The time depends on how set you would like the whites and how runny you like the yolk.  I baked mine for 20 minutes which gave set whites and a slightly runny yolk.  If you would like to remove the egg from the ramekin, run a knife along the outside of the bread and carefully take out.

  1. Asi, this is a hard one to comment on he he he. Love the idea of baked eggs…not the paani paani andha part (props to baby Rufs)! 😉 I need my eggs fully cooked!

  2. I loveee this idea for breakfast! I've seen versions of this floating around Pinterest and have always been intrigued. I wasn't sure how the whites could set and the yolks would still remain runny, but I guess you've shown me that they can! I want to try this asap! 🙂
