Palak Ki Baaji is a simple one pot dish my mom used to make. What I love about it is it’s a dump and go recipes. There is no browning of the onions involved which is such a time saver! If you are using pressure cooker, this cooks up pretty quick. If cooking on the stovetop, veal can take some time to get tender.
How To Use Frozen Spinach To Make Palak Gosh
This recipe can also be made using frozen spinach. You would need two of the frozen blocks of spinach and you would have to defrost the spinach before adding to the pot. I like to defrost on the stovetop in a pot on medium heat until all the water has evaporated.
How To Serve Palak Ki Baaji
Palak Ki Baaji tastes best with plain Basmati Rice. If you like you could also enjoy with some daal.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
Palak Ki Baaji (Spinach & Beef Curry)
A simple one pot Spinach and Beef Curry.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 lbs boneless veal cut into cubes
- 2 onions chopped
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 tsp red chilli powder or to taste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- salt to taste
- 1/4 cup cilantro chopped
- 2 lbs spinach chopped (I used baby spinach)
- 3-4 green chillies
Instructions
- In a pot, add all the ingredients except the spinach and green chillies.
- On medium-high heat, cook until the meat has changed colour, stirring often.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Cook until the meat is tender. If you are using a pressure cooker, I find cooking for 20 minutes is enough time to get the meat tender. For my pressure cooker, the spinach releases enough water for the meat to cook.
- Remove the lid and increase the heat. Cook until all the liquid has dried. If you are using a pressure cooker, I suggest transferring to a wider pot to make the process faster. When the liquid is almost dry, add the whole green chillies.
- We like to have this with plain Basmati rice.
Notes
I used my food processor to chop the spinach in small batches. I find this is a much faster way to chop the spinach. I also use my pressure cooker to speed up the process. Alternatively, you can use a large pot.
